My first dog who was completely my responsibility came from SCARS in the name of Gabriel (Gabe). He had been hit by a truck and found around the highway when SCARS rescued him. SCARS provided the necessary treatment and a kind foster home took him in. After recently losing our family dog, my sister's dog (Sumo) had trouble finding a dog that he liked and vice versa. We took him to multiple adoption events until he found Gabe. We were hesitant about Gabe because of his injury and he was a bigger dog than we'd ever had. After a few more meetings at adoption events and the boys remembering each other, we tried an overnight stay. We were warned that Gabe had a bit of resource guarding but that never was an issue with Sumo - they played, traded toys and shared beds on that very night and that was that. Gabe became part of our family.
After Gabe passed, I waited awhile before entertaining bringing a dog home as lots had changed in my life, so I decided to try fostering instead. Since it was my first time fostering, SCARS decided to give me the best dog they had at the facility - Princess Peach, who came in malnourished with a litter of 10 healthy pups. An amazing mom! Princess Peach, though super shy to begin with, quickly warmed up to me and showed just how much love she had to give. Shortly after - a foster win, and now renamed Kisa, she's part of my new chapter in life.
SCARS recently had to pause intakes due to lack of resources and funding. I want nothing more than to be able to help them out, so please consider donating ♡ Every dollar counts and goes towards saving lives!
